The trip across the Great Mecklenburg Lake District (“Mecklenburgische Seenplatte”) and further westwards on the Müritz-Elde waterway is winding through a breathtaking natural landscape. This fascinating area offers an interesting mixture of picturesque lakes, idyllic canals and towns worth seeing with historic half-timber houses, e.g. Plau am See. Past the beer town Lübz and along the bird and nature preserve of the Lewitz, the final climax of of this route awaits you – the grand Schwerin Castle on the island in the centre of the town.

On it goes, via Fürstenberg, towards lake Müritz. We recommend to stop by in the city of Waren and visit e.g. the Müritzeum or the Bärenwald (bear sanctuary). http://www.warenmueritz.de/
The trip continues across lake Plauer See from where you can explore the towns of Plau am See, Lübz and Parchim (which is well-known for its medieval townscape and churches).

Having arrived at Schwerin, there are several options for mooring. In close proximity to the Schwerin Castle there is the restaurant “Wallenstein” where you can moor and enjoy great meals and a beautiful view of the lake and the castle. Of course, you may also visit the famous Schwerin Castle which houses the Landtag (state parliament) of the Federal State of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
